Donor’s day at the height!

On June 5th, a unique event took place in Moscow for the first time in history of the world donor movement: volunteers donated blood at the closed viewing platform of the Ostankino TV tower at the height of 337 meters. The event is timed to the World Blood Donor Day, which is celebrated annually on June 14th. This year, the theme of the World Blood Donor Day campaign was blood donation and procuring universal access to safe blood transfusion as part of universal health care coverage. The motto of the World Blood Donor Day 2019 is «Safe blood for all». The donor campaign was organized jointly with the National Healthcare Development Fund and Moscow Blood Donation Resource Center with support of the Coordination Center for Blood Donation under RF PC, the Committee for Public Relations and Youth Policy of Moscow and the donor movement of Pirogov’s Medical University. On this day, blood was donated by employees of the Ostankino TV tower. The field team of the Blood Center of Russian Federal Medical and Biological Agency worked with donors. “So «high-altitude» donor event in Russia, and throughout the world, was held for the first time,” notes Elena Stefanyuk, director of National Foundation for Health Development, head of the Coordination Center for Blood Donation at Public Chamber of Russian Federation. – “The theme of the World Blood Donor Day campaign this year urges that more and more people around the world become donors and donate blood regularly, as this is a guarantee of ensuring a stable national supply of sufficient volume for all patients who receive blood transfusions. However, it is necessary to understand the most demanded donation is regular. Participation in the donor movement should be responsible and wouldn’t be an episodic participation in the action during this days, but a conscious permanent decision.
